We purchased an injection molding machine from APSX in the spring of 2021, and installed it that spring and summer.  Overall I would rate it at about a 4 or 4.5.  It is very easy to operate, and it works well with the PP and HDPE that we use in it.  Also, we use a lot of shredded HDPE from recycled containers, and it has no problems with that.  The only reasons I am not giving it a 5 is that the tablet that comes with it, even though it works fine, is flimsy, and could be mounted better.  Also, the gears on each end, with chains weren't totally covered, but now are, due to a student project.  The mold blanks are a little expensive, for just being a block of aluminum, but we were able to download drawings just fine.  I like that we could also use ejector pins, and can 3D print molds to fit into a holder.  We purchased a simpler machine earlier, but it didn't work well, and didn't hold the molds correctly.  We also tried making our own, but that was worse.  I also checked out a Chinese version of this, but the quality seemed poor.  Unless you have $50K for a Babyplast machine, this is the best option that I have found.  If anyone wants to contact me about it, email me at larry.peel@tamuk.edu.

A small, single cavity plastic injection mold usually costs between $1,000 and $5,000. Very large or complex molds may cost as much as $80,000 or more. On average, a typical mold costs $12,000.
The cost of injection molds varies based on the part and the application. Molds could be a few thousand dollars or hundreds of thousands.
Building an amortization schedule for your mold can help you see how much you are spending. For example, if your mold is going to cost $45,000, made out of steel and expected to make 500,000 parts over the next three years .
Customers are usually shocked when they are told their injection mold can range from $12,000 on the low end to $100,000+ on the high end.
Depending on the complexity of the part you’re trying to make, the tools can run anywhere from $1,000 to tens of thousands of dollars.
